Research
Alzheimer's disease
Developing digital health technologies to enable early diagnosis of dementia and tracking cognitive and functional decline in Alzheimer disease, as well as developing digital tools to improve the quality of life and functional performance of patients and minimize the burden and stress of providing care for those with dementia.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurological disorder that affects the brain, leading to a decline in memory, thinking skills, and eventually the ability to carry out daily tasks. It is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. The disease typically begins slowly with mild memory loss and difficulty in remembering recent events. As it progresses, individuals may experience challenges in problem-solving, language, and even changes in personality.
We have a broad research program in AD that focuses on the use of digital health technologies to 1) enable early diagnosis, 2) track cognitive and functional decline over time, 3) provide validated solutions to improve quality of life and functional performance of patients with dementia and AD, and 4) minimize the burden and stress of providing care for those with dementia. Our research in AD has been supported by $10M+ of funding from the NIH.
